Open Classes
Any sex/age, alone or in groups.
Fácil CurtoCourses with 2 to 4 Km, until 40 minutes, using linear references, specially paths, without technical difficulty. There isn't need Orienteering knowledge or physical endurance. It's a good opportunity to a do a walk in the forest. If you request, Organization will provide you monitor company during the course, to teach the basic Orienteering skills.
Difícil CurtoCourse within 3 to 5 Km, until 60 minutes, where is essential to have some Orienteering skills. Medium technical difficulty and low physical endurance needed.
Fácil LongoCourses between 4 to 6 Km, until 60 minutes. Low technical and physical demand, with a course using mainly linear references.
Difícil LongoCourse with 4 to 7 Km, until 80 minutes. Medium/high physical endurance needed, and some solid Orienteering technique.

Note: Sprint open classes are Easy a Difficult.

 

National Teams (COMOF):

The classes for the National Teams are Junior and Senior male/female, which correspond to W/M 20 and W/M Elite.

 Men Elite and Super Elite:

Do to the high number of M Elite runners, that class will be splitted in M Elite and M Super Elite. The athletes will be splitted, in equal number, in M Elite and M Super Elite, according to the IOF World Ranking. The COMOF Senior runners will also run M Super Elite.

Model Event extract

Map: Nosso Senhor dos Caminhos (Sátão) - 2012

Terrain: Map used in 3rd and 4th days of Portugal O’meeting 2012. Both pine forest and open ares are present, with some undergrowth in the latter. Moderate density of contour details and a lot of rock details. Terrain very similar to the MCO 2014 terrains.

Parking: It will be close to the sanctuary. Drivers should follow the organization indications

Parking: During Sprint athletes/spectators should park their vehicles close to the quarantine area, at Aguiar da Beira’s Stadium.

Quarantine: There will be a quarantine area, at Aguiar da Beira’s Stadium, to Elite and National Teams Sprint. Quarantine will be open at 14h30 and  runners must enter before 15h00. There won’t be quarantine to the Open Event Sprint (Night Sprint) runners.
Mobile phones, Tablets, PC’s, MP3/4 with screen, etc are not allowed at QuarantineThe use of those electronic devices at Quarantine will be punished with disqualification.
There will be  bag collecting  service at Sprint’s quarantine. Athletes must leave their bags in the correct place, and Organization will transport them to arena.  Organization don’t take any responsibility in cases of loss/damage of material. We advise the athletes to pack their objects in a safe way.

Pre-Start: There will be a pre-Start at quarantine (to Elite and National Teams classes). From pre-Start (-12 minutes) to the minute -2 athletes must run around 1,3km.

Start: The Start of the Night Sprint will be close to arena (where will be also the Finish). Elite and National Teams Sprint’s Start will not be announced before the event.

2-MCO 2014 Sprint ARENA_final

Map change: There will be map change for the Elite classes, during the spectator corridor. Athletes must drop their maps close to an organization member and then take the new one (letter B in the scheme below). There will be organization member’s helping at map change.

* - There will be a pre-Start at quarantine (to Elite and National Teams classes). From pre-Start (-12 minutes) to the minute -2 athletes must run around 1,3km.

Warning: The map has a small area of forest with some slope and bare rock. We recommend the athletes to be careful on those areas according to the shoes they are wearing.

Rules

Results:
- The final result of the Open Event will be calculated by summing the points of Middle and Long Distance.
- The champions of the 3rd Mediterranean Championship will be determined thought COMOF Rules.

Rules:
- MCO 2014 will be regulated by Portuguese Orienteering Federation . In presence of any missing case we wil aplly IOF Rules.
